RFID in today's supply chains Throughout history, business technologies have revolutionized the way firms design their supply chains and management control systems. Recent developments in radio frequency identification (RFID) having sparked massive interest among many researchers and practitioners with the belief that over the next few years, the technology will experience wide implementation as bar coding is used today. This is, for the most part due to the fact that RFID technology has great potential for streamlining the supply chain by improving efficiency and effectiveness. One major contribution where RFID can have an immediate impact on supply chain operations is by automating the back-end processes. By automating such processes around procurement, shipping, and receiving, companies can save time, reduce labor costs, boost inventory accuracy, and provide real time tractability information benefiting improved customer service. This presentation is aimed at serving the professional community by highlighting the use of RFID throughout the supply chain. Even though RFID business applications have evolved over the past couple of decades, there is no doubt that it is an emerging technology for identifying and tracking objects which holds many promises for closing the time-lag gaps in information transfer for improving supply chain operation productivity. This RFID-awareness has prompted much discussion about its benefits, challenges, and security issues. The theme of this presentation opportunity is the use of RFID in supply chains, and will address the massive interest in this old technology, which is changing the landscape of integrated supply chains. The use of RFID ranges from asset tracking to cashless payment to homeland security, and more. Speaker will discuss RFID strategies and implementation used to accomplish this on a broad range of business environments including (but not limited to): manufacturing, retail, warehouse/distribution, and material handling. Speaker Biography: Before accepting his current position, he worked over 20 years in operations management. His professional roles include Supply Chain Coordinator, Materials Manager, Production Manager, Production and Inventory Control Manager, and General Manager.
