WORK EXPERIENCE

06/12/02 to Present McLennan County, Waco, Texas.

As Director of Purchasing, my department is responsible for all purchases for McLennan County. I supervise three other staff members. We place purchase orders for all equipment and supplies under $25,000 and go out for bids on items that are over $25,000. I have developed a new set of Policies and Procedures for McLennan County. And have worked on a set of Terms and Conditions for County purchases.

I worked with departmental members to develop and initiate training for county employees on the use of the financial system (PeopleSoft) for entering requisitions.

1/1/99 to 06/11/02 Baylor University, Waco, Texas.

Hired as Assistant Director of Purchasing, I was responsible for the purchasing equipment and supplies. Two buyers were under my supervision. I worked on a number of proposals that required forming teams with other University personnel to make decisions on what we believed would be in the best interest for Baylor. All of these endeavors came to successful conclusions. I worked on a set of Terms and Conditions for University purchases. I was responsible for surplus equipment at Baylor. I was working on a website to record and display surplus items.

I also worked as a functional member of a twelve-man team to implement PeopleSoft, a new financial software. I ensured that the new software worked as required by the University and updated the Purchasing Manual to reflect the changes made to procedure in light of using PeopleSoft. In addition, to training employees on the PeopleSoft program, I ensured the accuracy of all financial information.

4/91 to 12/31/98 Plantation Foods, Waco, Texas.

Plantation Foods, a vertically integrated company, raises and processes turkeys, owns its own feed mill, hatchery, farms, processing plant and truck shop, and employs approximately 1,800 workers. As senior buyer, I utilized the Elke purchasing program to buy and manage packaging materials (corrugated boxes, bags, etc.) for production, chemicals for cleanup, medication and MRO supplies for fifty farms and the plant, feed mill, and hatchery, and fuel for the company's fleet. I was involved in a number of capital expenditures (packaging equipment, fork lifts, etc.) and managed two company couriers and vehicles.

In addition, I oversaw other areas of purchasing, including responsibility for purchasing and managing labels, spices, safety equipment, and bulk gases (CO2 and nitrogen) for plant production; POS materials for the marketing department; supplies for the plant's lab; and medications and supplies for the nurse's station.

Being promoted from receiving to the purchasing staff, my responsibilities included purchasing materials, maintaining inventory of materials, and assisting in quarter-end inventories. The mainframe and personal computers were an integral part of my position. My knowledge of software includes the Fleetwood MRP system (developed "in house"). Reason for leaving: overall corporate reduction of plant staff.

As Estimating Manager, I read blueprints to determine materials and labor needed to build a product. As Purchasing Manager, I negotiated prices of materials and services, created bills of materials, and entered materials in a cost book. My personal computer experience includes extensive use of Lotus 1-2-3, WordPerfect and the installation and establishment of an MRP computer system for the Company. Reason for leaving: company closed.
